Quick Tutorial - How To Edit Color in Illustrator

A quick tutorial on how to edit the color of your repeat pattern.




• Open your pattern, or make a new document with size that you want. Use rectangle tool and click once on the artboard, and fill it with the same size of your artboard. Fill it with your pattern.

• With rectangle tool, make a box, click alt + drag your box to duplicate, ctrl / cmd D to make more duplicates. Fill it with the colors that you want

• Select all the colored boxes by click + drag around the boxes. Open swatches, if it not visible, go to window on the tool bar and click swatches. With the boxes still selected, on the swatches click the new color group and name your new colors.

• Select your pattern. Go to edit, edit colors, recolor artwork.

• On the recolor artwork dialogue box, you can see your new color group on the right side. Click your colors, and it will automaticaly change your pattern colors.

• You can also change it directly by changing the color boxes, if you still not pleased with your color.

• You can change the color uniformly too. Go to edit, edit color, recolor artwork. But this time we go to Edit, you can see your colors displayed in color circle. 

• To edit uniformly, click the link harmony colors, and choose the colors that you want. You can change the colors individualy by clicking the link harmony colors again.

Quick Tutorial - How To Scale Pattern in Illustrator




• Open your pattern that you want to scale

• Right click on the pattern, click TRANSFORM, then SCALE

• Uncheck the TRANSFORM OBJECTS, only check the TRANSFORM PATTERN

• To scale, change the value at the uniform bar, click PREVIEW to see your changes

• click OK, when the scale is the way you wanted.

Pattern Frenzy + DIY Mouse Pad

This post basicly is about bragging on my new Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500, Graphic Edition haha, but to make up with all that bragging I have a DIY for you. Anyhoo this is not a sponsored post, I just so excited with this graphic edition wireless mouse.

I have been wanting a wireless mouse for some time because all of these crazy wires on my work table, so when I stumble upon this discount website I saw this 50% discount on a wireless mouse and above all, it has graphics on it! 


Cool right?! This version it's not new by the way, I think it was released in 2013. I bought the one with Saksi print on it, when I saw this Saksi, I thought this is meant to be! I have a pattern design that have a matching colors so I as well making a new mouse pad to accompany my new mice :)



So here's come the DIY, a simple DIY mouse pad that you could make from your old mouse pad. By the way, I wish someday my design could be on that mouse, keep dreaming until it came true right?! :D

Seamless Pattern Repeat (Part 2): How To Make a Mock Up

If you starting as a surface pattern designer and you want to sell your design, you should know the importance of a mock up.  Show how your pattern looks in a real product could be more appealing for people to buy your design. 

I really like to see my design appear in a product, even if its not real, I also could see if my designs need any adjustment and if it ready for print.

I made a video tutorial on how to make a mock up for your pattern design, I hope it could be somewhat helpful, before that, here is my pattern designs in mock ups I made using pictures I found on the internet.

Seamless Repeat Pattern Tutorial

Finally! my promise to make a detail tutorial on how I turn my watercolor painting into a repeat pattern is finally fulfilled. I made a video tutorial for a much easy instructions.

For those of you who wondering, promise? what promise? Some time ago I posted a series of tutorial on my instagram and promised to make a detail tutorial, alas! here it is.. pheew :D
